Generally speaking, your employer cannot terminate your employment during the period of time you are on maternity or parental leave or are otherwise entitled to it. Subject to some limited exceptions, both the Employment Standards Code (Alberta) and Alberta Human Rights Act prohibit this form of discrimination.
