You may have recently discovered that you’re pregnant. This is not a time when you should have to worry about job security.

Generally speaking, your employer cannot terminate your employment during the period of time you are on maternity or parental leave or are otherwise entitled to it. Subject to some limited exceptions, both the Employment Standards Code (Alberta) and Alberta Human Rights Act prohibit this form of discrimination.

If you are pregnant or otherwise require parental leave, don’t stress about your employer finding out. This is not your grandmother’s workplace. YYC Employment Law Group is here to help you navigate the legal landscape.
